Setting Up Your D-Link DIR-841 Router

Configuring your D-Link DIR-841 router is a straightforward process. Whether you are setting up a new home network or upgrading your office Wi-Fi, follow these steps to get online securely.

Step 1: Hardware Connections

  1. Turn off your ISP modem.

  2. Connect an Ethernet cable from your modem to the yellow WAN port on the back of the D-Link DIR-841.

  3. Connect another Ethernet cable from your computer to one of the black LAN ports on the router. (Alternatively, you can connect via the default Wi-Fi network printed on the sticker under the router).

  4. Power on the modem, wait two minutes, and then plug in and power on the D-Link router.

Step 2: Accessing the Web Interface

  1. Open a web browser (Chrome, Safari, or Edge).

  2. Type 192.168.0.1 or http://dlinkrouter.local into the address bar and press Enter.

  3. You will see a login page. By default, the username is admin and the password field should be left blank (or check the sticker on your device for a specific default password). Click Login.

Step 3: The Setup Wizard

  1. Once logged in, the router will automatically launch the Setup Wizard.

  2. Internet Setup: The router will detect your connection type. If it asks, select DHCP for a standard cable connection, or PPPoE if your ISP provided a username and password.

  3. Wireless Setup: You will be prompted to create your new Wi-Fi Name (SSID) and a strong Wi-Fi Password. Since the DIR-841 is dual-band, you can set the same name for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, or name them separately.

  4. Admin Password: Create a new, secure password for router login so unauthorized users cannot change your settings.

  5. Click Save or Finish. The router will reboot, and your new Wi-Fi network will be live.
